TWC hosts bone marrow drive for McMinn Central senior
Tennessee Wesleyan College's Student Activities Board will host a bone marrow drive September 18 and 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Glenn Lowe Dining Room in Sherman Dining Hall.
Tennessee Wesleyan College’s Student Activities Board will host a bone marrow drive September 18 and 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Glenn Lowe Dining Room in Sherman Dining Hall.
“This drive is an effort to find a bone marrow match for a local McMinn Central senior, Dylan Cochran,” said Kerrie Lynn, TWC director of student activities. “Dylan has a rare, genetic disorder and needs to find a bone marrow match. All donations through this drive will go to Be The Match, a national marrow donor program.”
Cochran has Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a rare genetic disorder characterized by the breakdown or loss of myelin sheath surrounding nerve cells in the brain as well as progressive dysfunction of the adrenal gland.
The donation process is a simple cotton swab of the donor’s cheek. All participants will be required to present their driver’s license numbers to donate.
“If a donor matches Cochran or is compatible with someone else in Be The Match’s system, the donor will be contacted about how and if they would like to proceed with the donation process,” said Lynn. “It’s always meaningful to donate, but it is especially warming when someone locally could benefit from those donations.”
