On April 23, Tennessee Wesleyan College will host Lynne Gylani Day, a birthday celebration in honor of Lynne Gylani, a TWC Spanish and French professor who was diagnosed with cancer several months ago. A variety of events will be held on campus from noon until 5:30 p.m. The main event, a silent auction, will be held in Glenn Lowe Dining Room. Items ranging from Applebee’s gift cards to collector’s items will be auctioned off throughout the day. The money that is raised will go toward Gylani’s medical expenses as well as scholarships and study abroad opportunities in her name.

“We’re holding Lynne Gylani Day to celebrate a milestone birthday for a dear faculty member who is battling some challenging medical issues,” said Suzanne Hine, vice president of academic affairs. “The college’s faculty, staff and students have rallied around Ms. Gylani to show her support and love.”

While the silent auction takes place in Glenn Lowe, a variety of activities in celebration of Gylani and her dedication to the college will be held in front of Sherman Hall, Townsend Memorial Hall and on the quad. A free t-shirt tie-dying station will be set up and donations will be accepted for the Gylani scholarship fund. TWC faculty will be performing music and attendees will have the opportunity to write notes and prayers to send to Gylani. Mayfield’s ice cream and water will be served throughout the day.

“The TWC community really just wants to show support for somebody who has dedicated her entire life to helping other people in her community, whether it’s local or global,” said Sydney Varajon, a TWC student. “We want to let her know how much we appreciate her.”

In addition to Lynne Gylani Day, TWC faculty, staff and students are making every effort to assist Gylani during her challenging time. Four of Gylani’s cats need to be placed in adoptive homes. For more information about the adoptions, contact Suzanne Hine at 423-746-5205 or shine@twcnet.edu.
