For the second year in a row, Tennessee Wesleyan College and local radio station J103 have teamed up to award a scholarship to one deserving student.

“We’re very excited this year to give this scholarship to someone entering our Management Excellence, ME program,” said Stan Harrison, TWC vice president for enrollment services.

“Last year the scholarship was for a traditional student and this year we’ve made it for a non-traditional student enrolling in our ME evening program. It’s a degree completion program for students who have completed at least 60 hours of college work prior to coming to us. It takes about 15 months to complete, attending one or two night classes a week.”

On March 23, Harrison announced the winner of the scholarship giveaway on air with J103. Ashlie Pryor won the competition with her 500-word essay on what a college education would mean to her. Pryor’s winning essay was chosen out of a pool of 50 essays that were written and entered into the scholarship competition.

“This is such a great opportunity,” said Pryor, who was surprised to find at the giveaway that she was not just one of five finalists but had already been chosen as the winner overall. “I’m very blessed to receive this scholarship.”

Pryor saw the scholarship competition on the J103 and TWC websites she said.

“I looked into it at that point,” said Pryor, whose scholarship will cover $12,000 of her tuition as she finishes her degree. “Being able to go to class one night a week is going to be great. I work full time and take care of three kids.”

Transfer students interested in attending TWC or joining Pryor in the ME program are invited to attend the Transfer Evening Information Session on April 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Glenn Lowe Dining Room on the TWC campus. The session will include information for transfer students and students interested in the ME program. Dinner will be provided for all attendees. To RSVP, please call 423-746-5289 or email lcarr@twcnet.edu. The deadline to RSVP is Monday, April 9.
