Dr. Ellen Ott Marshall to speak at TWC

Tennessee Wesleyan College will host Christian Ethics Professor Ellen Ott Marshall of Emory University's Candler School of Theology, Atlanta, Georgia.

Tennessee Wesleyan College will host Christian Ethics Professor Ellen Ott Marshall of Emory University's Candler School of Theology, Atlanta, Georgia. She will speak at 7 PM Wednesday, September 28 at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and again at 11 AM Thursday, September 29 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Dr. Marshall will speak on the process and work of conflict transformation and on the role of grace in conflict transformation. She holds the Ph.D. in ethics from Vanderbilt University, and  she is particularly interested in issues of violence and peacemaking, ethical questions in literature and film, and the dynamic relationship between faith, history and ethics. Dr. Marshall worked with the refugee resettlement programs of Church World Service and the United Methodist Committee on Relief. In 2009, Dr. Marshall served as the lead writer for God's Renewed Creation, a pastoral letter and foundation document for the United Methodist Church Council of Bishops.  In 2011, Dr. Marshall received the Eagle's Wings Excellence in Teaching Award for "faithful and dedicated service" by vote of the Candler Class of 2011. She is the daughter of Rev. Dr. Philip and Dr. Karen Ott, former academic dean and professor of biology at TWC, respectively.
