Chorale to perform special European Tour Concert locally
The Tennessee Wesleyan College Fine Arts Department invites the public to a special performance of the TWC Chorale's European Tour Concert.
The Tennessee Wesleyan College Fine Arts Department invites the public to a special performance of the TWC Chorale’s European Tour Concert on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens, Tenn.
This concert offers an opportunity to hear the TWC Chorale European Tour program locally. The Chorale will be touring Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic in May, the first overseas trip for the college’s choral ensembles since 2005. This generation of Chorale members have spent the past year fundraising and preparing music for this opportunity.
“This will be our chance to share our hard work with the TWC family and community prior to departing in May,” said Dr. Nathan Windt, TWC director of choral activities.
"While the concert repertoire appropriately features music from German, Austrian, and Czech composers, much of our program is devoted to American choral music, both in a contemporary, yet classical style. The concert also incorporates folk hymns and spirituals that are a part of our rich cultural heritage here in East Tennessee.”
Throughout the past year, TWC alumni and friends have donated generously to support the Chorale’s European tour.
“We want this concert to be an opportunity, a bit closer to home, to thank those donors who have already given so generously to make this tour possible and to invite others to support this worthy endeavor,” said Dr. Windt.
The Tennessee Wesleyan College Chorale, formed in 2002, is an auditioned chamber ensemble that specializes in sacred music of the Renaissance and early Baroque. The group also performs arrangements of American folk songs, hymns, and spirituals. Recently, the group has expanded its repertoire to include chamber music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
