The Tennessee Wesleyan College Education Department will host an Endorsement Seminar for teachers interested in adding on a Pre-K endorsement to their existing K-6, K-8, 1-8 or 1-9 certification. The seminar will take place on the TWC campus the week of July 11-15, 2011. This program also counts for 45 hours toward license renewal.
Interested participants may register online here. Registration is open now and will close on June 30, 2011. The seminar is limited to 125 participants.
For five days participants will cycle through sessions that provide up-to-date early childhood education pedagogy and theory, which will aid participants in passing the Praxis II exam – Education of Young Children (0021). After attending the seminars and passing the Praxis II, Tennessee Wesleyan College will make a recommendation on behalf of the participant to the Tennessee Department of Education, Office of Teacher Licensure, for an add-on endorsement in Early Childhood Education PreK-3.
To be accepted as a participant in the seminars, candidates must hold a valid and current teaching license with certification in kindergarten, which includes license numbers: 402 (K-8), 002 (K-3), 499 (K-6), 1-8 (101), 1-9 (001). After meeting the first criteria of appropriate current certification, candidates will be admitted on the following criteria:
1. Teachers currently working in a school based Pre-K program with either a waiver or alternative license.
2. Teachers with an “intent to hire” letter from a school system interested in hiring them if they had appropriate endorsement.
3. Teachers in a 3-star or NAEYC accredited non-public school based Pre-K program.
4. Teachers needing 45 credit hours for license renewal.
5. Teachers currently teaching in a K-6 classroom.
Registration for the seminar is $500.00 (non-refundable) for training and meals (breakfast, lunch, snack) or $700.00 (non-refundable) for training, meals (breakfast, lunch, snack), and private campus lodging.
Participants are responsible for travel and other meals. Also, all participants must register for the Praxis II #0021 by June 23, 2011. The cost for this test is $80 and the registration fee is $50 for a total of $130. The actual test date for the #0021 Praxis II is July 23, 2011. You may register for a later test, but it will delay your licensing process.
