Tennessee Wesleyan College’s Business Administration Department was recently awarded a $20,000 grant through the Merck Neighbor of Choice program.

Coordinated through the Merck Foundation and its Office of Corporate Philanthropy, the mission of the Neighbor of Choice program is to strengthen the relationship between Merck and its local communities by supporting outstanding work by non-profit organizations that strive to improve the quality of life of people in communities in which Merck resides and operates.

TWC’s Business Administration Department requested these funds for use in their Bachelor of Science in Management Excellence program, an evening program designed for working adults who want to complete their bachelor degrees. Students accepted to this program will be able to apply for one of fifteen $1,000 need-based scholarships. Remaining funds from the Merck grant will be used to buy a set of ten laptops that may be borrowed by qualifying students.

"We are thrilled and very thankful to have been awarded this grant from Merck,” said Dr. Martha Maddox, TWC associate dean and chair of business administration.  “Current and future students in TWC’s Management Excellence program will benefit from both the scholarship program as well as the opportunity to have the latest technology to complete their studies.”

With help from Merck’s Neighbor of Choice grant, more adults in TWC’s community will be given a chance to fulfill their dreams of a college education.

"This grant will be a blessing to our Management Excellence students,” said Stacy Swafford, TWC instructor of business. “Merck is known for its commitment to the community, and their Neighbor of Choice grant program is evidence of that continued commitment."
