More than 250 Tennessee Wesleyan College faculty, staff and students performed an overall 1,315 hours of service participating in the college's annual "Day of Service" on Tuesday. Volunteering at 20 different projects throughout the local community, TWC students participating in this year's "Day of Service" painted, cleaned, planted and organized at community sites from Athens to Etowah.

Tennessee Wesleyan College was host to 12 local public and private high schools who gathered at the college campus to participate in the Tennessee Supreme Court's SCALES program. Initiated in 1995, SCALES (Supreme Court Advancing Legal Education for Students) provides Tennessee high school students with the opportunity to hear oral arguments in actual Supreme Court cases.

Raper brings almost 40 years of professional experience to the position, having spent 37 years at Mayfield Dairy, 21 of those years serving as the public relations manager, growing and marketing the brand throughout her time at the company.

This July Tennessee Wesleyan College will be offering a cheerleading camp that is open to community children from the pre-kindergarten age to the eighth grade level. The camp will run 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from July 9 to 13 and will be instructed by the men and women of the TWC 2012-13 cheerleading squad. The cost is $50 per child or $80 for two children. The registration deadline is July 2.

Through May and June, any gift contributed to Tennessee Wesleyan College's general scholarship fund will be doubled thanks to a matching challenge grant the George R. Johnson Family Foundation has generously contributed to the college. The foundation will match up to a total of $50,000, doubling the charitable impact of donations to the general scholarship fund until the end of the college's fiscal year, June 30.

Tennessee Wesleyan College's 155th Commencement started with Friday evening's Baccalaureate service in Townsend Memorial Hall and concluded Saturday morning at the college's 155th Commencement service where more than 230 students celebrated their graduation and received their degrees. Held in McMinn County High School's gymnasium because of inclement weather, the graduates were cheered on by more than 5,000 family members, friends and college faculty and staff.

Education Angels annually raises funds for and distributes "We Care Packages" to local schools. This year the organization donated packages full of markers, pens, paper, highlighters, crayons and other supplies to local schools including E.K. Baker, Englewood, Mountain View, Riceville, Rogers Creek, Niota, Westside, North City and Calhoun.

Fisher Public Library, TWC Professor Nancy Gregg created "Pajama Storytime" a monthly event held at the library that serves community children and provides a service-learning opportunity to students in her Literacy and Language Acquisition class.
