III. Course Description: Classroom management strategies are explored to enable students to provide an effective learning environment, prevent misbehaviors, and deal with problem situations as they occur. Case studies are explored and dissected to prepare students for the Praxis II Exam and student teaching.
IV. Goals & Objectives: At the end of this course students will be able to:
(1) Demonstrate the ability to develop rapport with students by expressing empathy, advising, and assisting with problems.
(2) Demonstrate the ability to elicit cooperation of parents in the education of their children.
(3) Identify specific differences among students which would call for different treatments or interpretations.
(4) Manage class and laboratory time effectively, pace instruction, and organize and manage varied learning groups simultaneously.
(5) Recognize students with problems that require outside personnel and identify appropriate personnel for given problems.
(6) Design approaches that improve pupils learning, self-discipline, and cooperation.
(7) Use a variety of appropriate behavior management techniques including behavior modification with rewards and punishments.
(8) Describe the structure, organization, and basic management system of a school and teachers.
(9) Identify and research historical and recent information on an issue or trend in effective teaching and managements.
(10)Modify their own teaching and management strategies based of self-evaluation
and personal traits that influence teacher efficacy.
