Billy Berry begins his third year as head
baseball coach at Tennessee Wesleyan. Under Berry’s direction,
the bulldogs have an overall record of 81-31, posting a
conference record of 33-3 during his two years.
In 2007, TWC broke the previous school record for wins by
finishing the season with 46 victories. The bulldogs were
ranked in the top five nationally in homeruns, slugging
percentage, runs batted in and runs scored. The 2007 bulldogs
were the first team in AAC history to go through the regular
season unbeaten and were rewarded by finishing the year as the
number seven team in the country as voted by the NAIA.
Over the last two years, Coach Berry has led the bulldogs to
back to back AAC regular season championships. Back to back
AAC tournament finals with one AAC tournament title in 2007.
The bulldogs have appeared in the Region XII final game the
last two seasons coming away with the Region XII title in
2006. With that win the bulldogs made there second appearance
in the Mid Atlantic Super Regional. Berry has been named AAC
and Region XII coach of the year twice in 2006 and 2007.
Berry and his staff have continued to maintain a high level of
recruiting. On the current TWC roster 12 different states are
represented from across the nation including the Dominican
Republic. In the last six seasons Wesleyan has seen eight
former bulldogs move on to the professional ranks. Twenty four
players have been named to the All Conference team with four
of those players being named AAC player of the year. The
bulldogs have had countless Region XII selections and NAIA
honorable mention All Americans including two second team and
two first team selections.
Coach Berry attended Bluefield College were he was a three
time first team All Conference selection. After receiving his
B.S. degree in physical education in 1998, he served two
seasons as an assistant at his alma mater Mills Godwin High
School. In 1999 Berry helped lead the Eagles to a Virginia
High School League State Championship. The following two
seasons Berry was an assistant at J.R. Tucker High School. In
2002 Berry helped to lead the Tigers to a runner up finish in
the VHSL State Championship. In the summer of 2002 Berry lead
West End Post 361 to a Division 5 title, the American Legion
State championship and within one game of the American Legion
World Series.
In 2003 Berry was named as an assistant coach at Bluefield
College. Berry a former player and graduate of Bluefield was
named the Head Baseball Coach in the summer of 2004. He
remained at Bluefield for the next two seasons before
accepting the baseball job at Tennessee Wesleyan. In his two
year stint at Bluefield he had an overall record of 46-57 with
a conference record of 22-31. The Rams broke the school record
for wins in his first season going 25-29, ending the season
with one of his players moving on to play professionally.
In his nine years of coaching either as an assistant or head
coach Berry has seen nine former players move on to
professional baseball. He wants to continue to help young men
use baseball as an avenue to get their education, continue on
the bulldog baseball success and have kids that represent the
school, their families, and the program with pride.
Berry a native of Richmond, Virginia is married to the former
Jacqueline Walker the two have one son Brady who was born on
September 17, 2003. The couple who reside in Athens are
expecting their second child Brooks in late January of 2008.

Moody

Coach Moody enters his fourth season with
Tennessee Wesleyan. Although this is his fourth year as a
coach, Moody is a veteran to the Bulldog baseball program. He
was a four-year pitcher, finishing at the pinnacle of his
career with a 6-1 record and a 1.55 ERA as a senior.
Offering a wealth of knowledge and proven experience, he will
work with the pitching staff. Moody has been noted as
possessing one of the best work ethics of any Bulldog to play
at TWC and works diligently to improve himself as a coach.

Coach McGuire begins his first year at TWC
and will be responsible for the Bulldog offense and outfield
play, as well as assisting with recruiting and coaching first
base on game days. Prior to coming to Athens, McGuire spent
last year as an assistant coach at Virginia Military Institute
where he worked with the outfielders and assisted with the
hitters. McGuire was a part of the most successful season in
Keydets history where they broke the school record for wins
with a 34-21 record. The Keydets also had several marquee wins
on the year beating #3 Virginia, #10 Auburn, and won a series
versus an SEC opponent for the first time beating University
of Florida twice.
Prior to VMI, McGuire coached at William Byrd High School in
Vinton, VA, for three years, where he was a standout performer
twice earning All-State honors, was named District and Region
Player of the Year his senior year, and was a key part to the
State Championship team in ‘97.
McGuire then went on to play collegiately at The College of
William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where he was also a key
part on the 2001 CAA Conference championship team that went on
to play in the Clemson Regional. McGuire was named captain in
2002 and played with current Major Leaguers Brendan Harris
(Tampa Bay Devil Rays), Bill Bray (Cincinnati Reds), and Chris
Ray (Baltimore Orioles).
McGuire is single and resides in Athens.
