15th Annual 5K Race and 1-Mile Color Run

The annual event is coordinated each spring by the students of the Tennessee Wesleyan College Exercise & Sports Sciences Department's Administration and Organization of Sport and P.E. class. Since this course is only a one-time requirement, each year a different group of students organizes the event. The 2013 race will be the 15th annual event and it continues to improve each year.

This year, we are improving the 1-mile Walk/Run to make it a Color Run! Participants will run the 1-mile on campus route and be showered with color powder at each 1/4 mile mark. Runners should wear white or light clothes that they want to make colorful and sunglasses. The 1-mile Color Run is unique in its shorter distance than most of the other color races. This opens the experience to individuals of all ages and fitness levels! This event is a partnership between the 4-H Extention and Tennessee Wesleyan. Profits from the Color Run will benefit TWC Exercise & Sports Sciences students and the local 4-H Honor Group.

All proceeds benefit the Department. In 2010, the group earned $2,000 which was used to purchase a laptop and projector for one of the two classrooms utilized by the Exercise and Sports Sciences Department. In 2011, the group earned $2,800 which was used to purchase enough tennis racquets and lacrosse sticks for an entire class of future professionals. It also funded a three day trip for four Physical Education Majors to the annual TAHPERD conference and paid their memberships to organization for the entire year. In 2013, the group earned $3,600 which funded a three day trip for four Physical Education Majors to the annual TAHPERD conference and paid their memberships to organization for the entire year and funded a two day trip for ten Sports Management Majors to a professional conference in Johnson City and to tour the Bristol Motor Speedway from a sports management perspective.

Registration will be at Townsend Hall (just off College Street). No other events will be happening on campus at this time, so you can park in any lot and follow the sound of music to our Registration desk! Both races will begin near the main entrance and Durham Hall. Don't worry, we will announce the race prior to their beginnings and direct you to the starting line. See you April 6th!
